Nishiki Market - known as Kyoto Kitchen
We just went along and tried out everything that caught our eyes
more grilled mochi
fishsticks on the left that were cooked in stock
more deep fried tofu donut. we tried something different here:
American dog
- as heavy and unhealthy as always...
grilled fish of all sorts
the shop front looks very impressive but we tried the grilled eel here and it was very dry
Expensive giant strawberry. 3.5 quid each!
popular layered cake.
where take bake a thin layer.. than dip into the batter and bake again and so on and on.
It was very soft and buttery.
VERY expensive Japanese knives!
It was difficult to pick since there are so many to choose from.
We didnt buy from this knife shop but we went to one at Osaka (near shinsekai) with an English speaking owner who was very helpful in explaining to us the differences between each knives and let us try it out right on the spot. We bought a chef and a udon knife at the end.
dropped by for a cappucino :)
We then took the train and got to Fushimi Inari - where Memoir of Geisha was shot!
It was very crowded at the bottom of the hill. but as you walk up.. it empties out :)
Each arch is donated by different companies/individuals..
just following the path as set out by the arches, you'll get to the below spot, which gives you a great view of Kyoto :)
We didn't really go round the whole route (apparently it takes >2h). we walked back down and stopped by a little tea house on the way - where we had a cup of matcha with a small jap sweet. They also serves light meal like soba
Afterward, we just wandered around the neighbourhood
the soft tofu icecream that goes against the gravity :p very smooth!! highly recommend it :)
just walked around the residential area and enjoyed the peacefulness
For dinner, our Japanese friend brought us to a nice yakitori place at Fushimi momoyama.
Apparently it's famous for chicken
It was very packed and we had to wait for 1+ hour to get a table.
You definitely have to come with someone who can read Japanese since the menu was in Japanese.
She ordered a bit of everything for us to try out :) It was very nice!
deep friend chicken - Karage
rice in eggy soup
Agemochi - like age tofu but with mochi instead
deep friend mochi in a soya sauce broth
Chazuke - rice in japanese tea
Grilled different parts of chicken - breast with plum sauce, soft knuckles, liver.. etc
Something ridiculous to end the post ...
Who needs a noodle cooker?!?!?!?!?!
